Help customers picture the purchase

Give families a more relevant preview of supported products and packages by showing their selected image in the shopping cart.

When a family is shopping online, a product name, price and generic image may not be enough to help them imagine the finished result. Dynamic Display Images can replace that uncertainty with a more relevant preview using the shopper’s selected photograph.

That can make the crop, shape and presentation of an unfamiliar product easier to understand, and make the finished product feel more real. It is a practical way to improve the clarity of the shopping experience and create an opportunity to support stronger AOV and GMV without changing the products you already sell.

What customers see matters

Product imagery is often one of the first things shoppers examine. In Baymard Institute’s product-page usability testing, 56% of participants began by exploring product images, while 42% tried to understand a product’s size and scale through those images.

For photography products, showing a family’s selected image on the product can provide useful context that a generic thumbnail cannot, helping make the crop, shape and presentation easier to understand.

More relevant experiences meet modern customer expectations

Customers increasingly expect brands to make their experiences relevant. McKinsey research found that 71% of consumers expect personalised interactions, while 76% become frustrated when those interactions are not relevant to them.

Dynamic Display Images apply that principle at an important moment in the buying journey: instead of seeing only a generic product image, shoppers can preview a supported product or package using their selected photograph.

From Designer to the shopping cart

Dynamic Display Images use a two-part setup. First, create or duplicate a dedicated display template in Designer. Then assign that template to a supported product or package in the Price Sheet.

  1. Open Designer and create or duplicate a display template.

  2. Check the crop, image placement and intended product presentation.

  3. Open the Price Sheet and assign the Dynamic Display template to the correct supported product or package.

  4. Review the fallback image so the product still displays clearly when a dynamic preview is unavailable.

  5. Save and complete the normal sync or publish step.

  6. Test the complete customer experience on desktop and mobile.

Where Dynamic Display Images help most

Use them where seeing the customer’s image genuinely helps explain the purchase, especially when crop, shape or presentation is difficult to understand from a standard thumbnail.

  • Supported: products and packages.

  • Not used for: digitals, image options or product options.

Test before you publish

  • Confirm the correct product or package is using the intended display template.

  • Review the crop with portrait and landscape images where appropriate.

  • Check the fallback image.

  • Test desktop and mobile.

  • Confirm the customer can understand what the preview represents.
